The stuff my dreams are made of

Summer is gone and I still haven't got one of those hats...or shoes...or dresses...but while grumpily getting myself ready for a whole different season, I can still dream of warmth, happiness and a care-free existence, all of them embodied by those see-through, ethereal hats, delicate, cobweb like fabrics and graceful parasols of the 20s. Come on, spider of my dream, do grow real!

It's been a little while since I put together this mood board, so I need to apologize a thousand times for not remembering all of the photograph sources. The ones I do remember are DearGoldenVintage on Etsy for the gold shoes and possibly 1860-1960 on Ebay for the cranberry dress, but really I am not sure about this one.

I'm game

Everything takes a little longer with me :) but I have slowly given in to those cries in the wild. I'm talking about the long, wistful, courting cries of the fall fashions. I guess you could say that I am now "in season". Every bit like a mating pheasant, I am now prepared to make a show of myself, parade my crush, dazzle you with my splendid colors...
Uh, if only it was March and that might work! However this time of the year the chances are of ending up in a pan. A fallen pheasant. Such are the tricks of autumn.

Ok, so my writing is rubbish! Frying talk aside (or brain-freezing more like), here are some wannabe credentials: the magazine pic is from flickr, the clothing pictured sold a little while ago on Ebay (I'm still in pain about that skirt), the mother of pearl and onyx brooch is a modern but deco inspired piece that was available on the same site, black and white photos are from doctormacro, and I shamefully admit I can't remember about the rest.
But I am now officially in autumn mode, I just wish the weather was too, instead of lingering in some unknown limb-like gray season that doesn't quite match my fantasies of lust and deceit.

Coral fantasy

"You go to my head,
You linger like a haunting refrain,
And I find you spinning round
In my brain
Like the bubbles in a glass of champagne...

You go to my head
Like a sip of sparkling burgundy brew,
And I find the very mention of you
Like the kicker in a julep or two.

The thrill of the thought
That you might give a thought
To my plea
Casts a spell over me...
Still I say to myself:
Get a hold of yourself,
Can't you see that it never can be!

You go to my head with a smile
That makes my temperature rise;
Like a summer with a thousand Julys,
You intoxicate my soul with your eyes...
Though I'm certain that this heart of mine
Hasn't a ghost of a chance
In this crazy romance,
You go to my head, you go to my head..."

So much more than a riot

There is a buzz in the air as spring enters the city with its Trojan horse of aroused senses, beetles and hope. From everywhere, colors are protruding through the black of a winter retreating so fast it has no time to mourn the lost battle. Only a minute left until the sweet invasion is complete, before we all bow in ecstatic surrender to the victor.
Queen Spring, your crown awaits you.

For the non purists, here's a mixed platter of vintage and vintage inspired, to be served al fresco.

Pick what you like, but be sure to be Jumpin' at the Woodside, it's what spring is about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdWgHtTau48

Shrinking Violet

I was born with a love for violets. They were there every spring, creeping out of a crack in the stone by the old house. And every spring my heart would skip a beat in fear that perhaps this year they won't make it. But these little flowers fight all evil, and every year they came through.
Their vibrant inflorescence filled my childhood springs with sweet delicacy and haunting perfume. That, I will always have. Truly, I am a violet junkie.

Apart from the Meyers brooch, all the objects in the images bellow are available on etsy as we speak (since I am not using the blog for commercial purposes I am not providing direct links).

April Fool

I foolishly believed the promises of spring. It snowed yesterday. Like the temperature, my mood dropped from blue to black and I listened to this song so many times I dreamt it and woke up with it in the morning. Pity me...

Billie Holiday's "I'm a fool to want you"

Summer where art thou?

I'm on holiday at the moment. Every single day, it rains. Every single day, in secret, I worship the sun. My little ratty heart beats faster at the thought of a slice of blue sky. But today, summer is a deco dream only.
