Katharine Hepburn, The Lake, 1933
The polo neck or turtleneck, paired with slacks, was a get up much favored by Katharine Hepburn and Greta Garbo.
I am an admirer of both, and most of all, of the slick, casual style they sported with such aplomb.

Nice! I love ms. hepburn and her pants-wearing panache- I'm starting to look at wearing pants again and the vintage vibe is definitely a nice way to channel it. I loved the recent shot in Vogue of Michelle Williams as Marilyn, with cuddly sweater and fitted tweed pants!
ReplyDeleteOh, I haven't seen that, but it has been a while since I looked in Vogue :)!
ReplyDeleteWhat I want though are some vintage trousers or at least some well made repro ones. There are some around, too expensive for my pocket, but I guess one day I'll break in, since all I have at the moment are 3 or4 pairs with a vintage vibe, but not quite all the way there, as it is most of the time the case with vintage "inspired" fashions.
You look great (as usual)!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I have to say I have a soft spot for the more "masculine" or androgynous fashions...
ReplyDeletePolo/turtlenecks had a masculine image until alledgedly Coco Chanel borrowed a highnecked sweater from a stablehand one chilly day and thus history was made.
